L’AVE, created in 1972, obtained consultative status in 1979 then participatory in 1999. She is a member of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations (OING) which is the 4th pillar of the Council of Europe, place of expression of citizens through the joint and constructive action of 326 OING, of the 47 Member States.
The AVE acts in the three commissions of the Conference : Human rights, Democracy, Education& Culture. The representatives of the AVE at the Council of Europe are convened during the Strasbourg sessions and during the group meetings and between them..
The Conference is currently chaired by Gerhad ERMISHER.
